SS Camp

This week some of us are going on a mini licence camp - we'll post here when we get back. Should be a good few days but the weather forecast doesn't look good :-(

Actual last night campfire

Monday night. The last meeting of term. One big campfire (big enough to set the grass alight underneath it anyway)! We sang all of our favourite songs, toasted marshmallows, watched Rach flame grilling marshmallows then drop them on the floor.

It was a great way to end the term - we each chose our favourite songs and took turns to create a moat around the fire.

Thanks for a great evening everyone, enjoy the holiday and see you back in September for a planning meeting.

I don;t think we lost the game even once!

'Last-night' Castle and Campire Fire

Although not for our last night (sadly mine), we had a great spread of wonders to go out with a bang - fire, chocolate oranges, and a bouncy castle!

Fire: It is orange. It flickers. It makes soot for fire warrior streaks!
Oranges: They are orange. They make good cake - and good juice! They provide string hats for fire warriors!
Bouncy Castle: Coolness personified - enough said :)

We had a great time lighting the fire with matches that were too short and matchboxes with no sandpaper - and once we got it going, the inevitable pokey stick and Italian accents were quick to arrive. The chocolate orange cakes (supposedly how we always make them) were tasty tasty stuff, although tongue burning :)

But nothing tastes as good as juice you've squeezed yourself through a clean dishcloth with a large plastic spoon, so this is what we set about doing! Hours and hours of labour later, 'I hear tinkling!', and voila! Orange juice!

And the bouncy castle..... Needed rescuing, because it sank, but once fixed - thank you castle man! - it was fun - very fun to bounce Pippa around like a helpless ragdoll, haha!

It also made a perfectly safe place for Maria to make her promise, and luckily, no-one was stabbed while we sank lower and lower into the ground....

And I still want to know who the people in the mysterious cupboard were...

Next week, campfire, and I personally will see you all later - so have a great summer!

Friends Like These

Well, we brought our friends, and we really showed them what we're all about! An evening of hilarity and insanity ensued, fueled by mysteriously appearing pots of sweeties...

Based vaguely on the old (sorry Vee!) TV show, we had to face a series of challenges in teams, and had to select the friend best suited to that type of game. The knot racing was great fun to watch and commentate on, while the old favourite of crossing the sea-floor on too few raft-chairs was as dangerous and brilliant as always.

We tried to be as nice as we could to newcomers Claire, Lucy, and the four Guides whose names I have completely forgotten (oops, I told you I was bad with names, please tell me!) but as soon as we realised points were in it, they just got absorbed into the general melee of craziness! I hope everyone enjoyed themselves - it certainly looked like they did!

We only lost the Game once, riiiight at the end! So I suppose, really, the friends couldn't have got a true picture of what it's like to lose 12 times in a one and a half hour session!

Kudos to Vee for her ingenious blend of activities old and new, ranging from the spaghetti obstacle course (always one for a chuckle) to a race with water and holey cups (need I say more than wet?) to Capture the Flag, which (un)fortunately wasn't as violent as it could have been, given the aforementioned wetness.... but we did break the flags! (and fixed them. We're handy, Rangers)

Next week we are sailing - details to follow, I can only assume....

Around the world in 1.5 hours exactly!

Last night was lovely and relaxed. A whistle-stop tour of the world saw us take in some famous sights, even if they were a little thinner, neon-er and strawier than usual... :)

International cuisine was provided by all, ranging from chocolate, to biscuits, to cake - Vee's brilliant savoury contributions unfortunately got neglected, from sheer laziness. It's a summery kind of laziness, 'cause last night it was just SO hot! Super special awesome Frisbee sessions were well worth the effort of getting up once we realised who the pros (Emma!!) and the un-pros (Becky! :P) were - although maybe Becky should have some allowance made for her huge bruise!

Inventiveness award for the evening goes to Maria - when the Frisbee got stuck in the tree, the brave girl volunteered both her shoes as projectiles, and it worked!

Ooh, and we did a very short straw obstacle course. A painful one. To be honest, we didn't make a lot of effort - sprawling on the floor was a lot more appealing!

I can't remember any of the quotes of the evening, even though I know I said two of them, and Clare said the other. (Help me out? Becky, I'm looking at you!) But we did lose the Game three times! This I know. :)

Next week is Friends Like These, so we need outsiders :O If it's as hot as this week, they won't see us at our usual energetic level - so perhaps we'll almost be normal....

Svimming, svimming, in ze svimming pool.

Sorry for the late post - busy busy this week!

So, swimming! We turned up at Coral Reef, most of us exhausted - most of us normal-exhausted, after school, and Katherine special-exhausted, from cycling amazingly fast from London to Brighton!

A lot of fun ensued, despite the pool being not nearly as deep as I remembered (we could stand up in the middle :) ) although the water jets were really as hard as I remembered!

I'm not entirely sure what the lifeguards thought of us - we stayed later than anybody else, to the point where we had a lifeguard each! And Katherine's attempt at climbing into the hot tub won a whistle - so she did it again :)

I've recovered now, guys, from laughing at my inflatable chest! We should go swimming again more often... with dodgy German accents a la the title.

(Because I said so!)

Did we actually lose the Game at all??
